Garden clubs & plant societies
The fastest way to learn what actually grows here is to spend time with the people already growing it. These are the county's most active gardening organizations — visitors are welcome at all of them.
- California Native Plant Society — Santa Cruz County ChapterSanta Cruz County
The local chapter of the statewide native plant society. Runs plant sales at Cabrillo College, field trips into the Santa Cruz Mountains, and public talks — the best source for which natives belong in and around a pond or stream.
- The Gardeners' Club of Santa Cruz CountyAptos (county-wide membership)
A long-running community club with monthly meetings at the Aptos Grange, featured speakers, plant sales, and members from Bonny Doon to Watsonville. Gardeners of all skill levels are welcome.
- UCSC Arboretum & Botanic GardenUC Santa Cruz campus
A working botanic garden specializing in Mediterranean-climate and drought-tolerant plants from California, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. First Saturday tours and community days are open to the public.
